Wood, leather, and glass
This turned wood vessel was inspired by the eroded wooden pillars supporting the pier by Pat Kim’s studio.
After cutting a large log of southern yellow pine (which would have otherwise been treated and used to build a pier) into manageable pieces with a chainsaw, Pat turned, bleached, and then stained the smaller logs with his own custom finish.
A glass measuring cup fits snugly inside this vessel, making it easy to use as a vase, and a leather base allows it to sit on a surface without scratching it.
The cracks and splits in the wood are a natural result of the materials used, and are intended to be seen.
Slight variations will occur from piece to piece.
